1. Choose your destination with Intent

To travel better, you need to know why you’re going to a certain destination. You may have had an initial inspiration that shot through your mind while watching a film or reading a favorite book, but what else is there to the story? Dig deeper and understand your intent because the more you know about where you want to go, the better your experience will be when visiting.

2.Plan your first night well.

Spend some time researching your destination in advance so you know what the options will be so when it comes time to find lodging for the night, you’ll know what to expect. It’s also advisable to plan ahead and book accommodations for the length of your stay at least 4-5 days ahead of your trip! This gives you more than enough time to arrive by mid-afternoon without having to rely on good fortune when booking late in the game.

3.Visualize the necessities but no more

Traveling solo and by air is a joy and a big adventure. Be aware of all the aspects of your trip from start to finish, from your departure time to your arrival time, to how much baggage you can check in. Also take into consideration the different transportation methods you might use as well as any transfers that might be necessary. Trip planning is an integral part of traveling well but leave room for the unexpected! It’s important to make sure that your travel plans fall within what feels safe and comfortable for you at any given point in time, however it’s equally important not to let expectations do all the work here as they could actually lead to a disappointing experience for you if things don’t go according to plan.

4.Pack light

You’ll be saving money and become more mobile if you pack light during your journey. It requires a bit more planning to have a wardrobe that stretches from hiking boots to high heels but it can be done. Choose a base color (navy, black), a contrast color (white, beige) and two colors to accessorize and pull it all together.

5.Keep your accommodation to yourself

Don’t give out your address or phone number to anyone, except for close friends and family members you trust.

6.You do not have to eat alone

Whether it’s cooking classes, lunch specials or themed dinners, there are so many ways to have company over dinner if that’s what you want.

9.Take a break from technology.

Women lead busy lives; raising families, earning money, writing books… The list goes on. One way to find yourself again is by turning away from technology (phones, TV etc) for a little while. You need to take some time off social media because it can be completely addicting! To really relax you may want you unplug and hopefully even turn your phone off during this time to focus on your well-being or other things you might have missed out on doing lately.

10.Stay local, buy local, meet locals

By planning well you will have a better understanding of how to be supportive of the local economy.
